Hello, in today's episode, I want to talk a bit about mindset and what it takes to grow your business, your craft business, into a thriving and profitable one for you. It's not just about the products that you sell and you make. It's not just about how much you sell your pieces for and where you're selling. A lot of it is to do with your mindset, and there's several aspects to this that I want to briefly talk about today. One place to start is what success means to you. What is it that makes you feel like you have succeeded in your craft business? And this comes down to the goals that you're setting and when you're reaching those goals. What is your measure of success? And so, if you know where you want to be, you can identify when you get there, and this is all about letting success into your life as a maker. Sometimes we can feel uncomfortable taking compliments, or we can be. We don't seek them out because we're worried about what somebody might say, but you have to be open to receiving feedback, to receiving compliments and to welcoming success into your craft business journey. So having a success mindset can look like many different things. It's your mindset towards growth and the resilience you have and you're longing for continuous improvement, whether that's in your craft skills, in your business skills, in your interpersonal skills with your audience. All of these skills will go towards growing your business and it's this mindset of growth and resilience and improvement that will lead to success. So overall, we would call it a success mindset.

As creatives, makers and crafters, I think we are inherently curious people. We're always looking for the next idea, the next inspiration. There is this idea of continuous learning, and you can take that natural curiosity and carry that through into the business side of your craft as well. So, continually learning the strategies and techniques that you need to grow your business and that understanding that it will take time and you'll gradually learn the skills to that you need to put into place, and it won't necessarily happen overnight, but it will take time as you learn the new techniques, learn the new skills, just as you do with your craft as well. So at the time of recording it is mid-september, so we're in the coming up very quickly to the last quarter of the year October, november, december so it's an ideal time to take a moment before the end of year really kicks in and look back at the goals that you set yourself early in the year, look back at what plans you put in place and where you are on that journey. Are you where you wanted to be with your craft and with your business? Is there anything that you need to adapt or change? So this review process is all part of the mindset of continually learning and that success mindset that I keep mentioning towards growth. So, now that I've talked briefly about what having a success mindset is all about, I want to follow that up with the planning side and to really get you thinking about planning for success and what it's going to take to take your craft business to the next stage of its journey. Now, this could look like many things. It could be making a plan to sell a certain amount before the end of the year. It may be a plan to build your online presence, to build your audience so that more people see your work. Or it may be a plan simply to get stuck into committing to growing your business and your craft business. But what's important is that you start making a plan so that you can follow it through to the end of the year with clear steps and clear goals which you can celebrate when they are achieved and when you succeed in those goals.

Sarah: 6:51

Success isn't a one and done opportunity. You don't have to meet the biggest goal ever to be successful. Success could just be finishing a blog post by the end of the week. It could be something very small. It doesn't need to be a all singing, all dancing mega goal. It can be a small step that you have been wanting to finish for a while and you're not quite there. So when you do, you can celebrate that win.

Sarah: 7:22

So remember, success is on your terms. It's not somebody else's version of success. It is. It has to be on your terms. So you have to know what success means to you, and the only way to do that is to take a moment and think about it. Take a moment and plan out what it is, where you want to be and where you want to take your business and each step, what the signal for success is going to be. And the longer version of success will be your impact on the world. Your impact your craft is going to bring to other people and the joy it brings to other people's lives as well as your own. So really celebrate those wins, celebrate the success that you have and look forward to those small wins and those successes that you're going to have in the future.

Sarah: 8:06

And remember it takes all the small steps. It doesn't happen overnight. Future, and remember it takes all the small steps. It doesn't happen overnight. Put yourself in the right places to achieve the success that you want to achieve. That's it for today. I hope it's been useful. I hope it's given you some food for thought about reviewing and evaluating the goals and plans that you may have set earlier in the year. And remember to plan out the coming months and to plan out the coming weeks so that you can have those small wins that will move your business forward. Remember you're not alone in your business journey. There's a plethora of crafting communities out there in all different genres, and there are coaches and mentors like myself that can be a sounding board as well. So please don't ever feel like you're alone. There is a lot of wealth of knowledge and experience out in the world. Make use of it and embrace this crafting community. Take care and I'll speak to you soon. Thank you.
